The 27 Club has initiated its newest member, Amy Winehouse. End of an Era, Sony Discontinues Cassette Walkmans

After 30 years and 200,000,000 portable cassette tape players manufactured, Sony says it will stop producing their Walkman cassette tape players.  The last Walkmans were produced and shipped in the spring and when they are gone, they’re gone.  Sony still plans on manufacturing their CD and MD model Walkmans as their digital format models.  Some China based companies may still produce some Sony Walkman branded cassette players, but those will likely not make their way to the US, instead be sold in the Asian and Middle East markets.
